Olujimi Olufemi Agbi dedicated his professional life to the Nigerian public service, where he built a reputation for integrity, diligence, and excellence. His career spanned several decades, marked by unwavering commitment to accountability, discipline, and ethical leadership.

Starting as a young civil servant in the Auditor General’s Office, he quickly distinguished himself through his hard work and attention to detail. Over the years, his dedication earned him opportunities to serve in different capacities, rising through the ranks with a career that took him from Lagos to Sokoto and beyond. He became widely respected for his sense of fairness and responsibility, gaining the trust of his colleagues and superiors.

His service was not limited to Nigeria alone—his expertise led to assignments beyond the country, reflecting the confidence placed in him as a professional of high repute. Whether at home or abroad, he remained steadfast in his commitment to excellence, ensuring that his work reflected the values of honesty and accountability that he held so dearly.

By the time he retired in 2004 , Olujimi had left an indelible mark in public service. Even in retirement, his influence endured as he continued to mentor and guide others, emphasizing the importance of integrity, discipline, and service to the nation.

His career was not just about fulfilling job responsibilities—it was about upholding principles, setting standards, and serving as an example of what public service should be. Olujimi Olufemi Agbi’s legacy is a testament to the power of dedication, honesty, and the belief that true service is about making a lasting impact.

Olujimi Olufemi Agbi’s family life was a profound reflection of love, devotion, and selfless sacrifice. His journey with his beloved wife, Janet, began long before they exchanged vows—they courted for nine years, building a foundation of trust, understanding, and unwavering commitment before formalizing their union in 1974. Their marriage became the bedrock of a home anchored in faith, discipline, and an unshakable belief in God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

A devoted husband and father, Olujimi gave everything he had to ensure the success and well-being of his family. Despite earning a modest salary as a public servant, he never compromised on the education of his children. To him, education, integrity, and a good name were the greatest gifts a parent could offer, and he made immense sacrifices to provide his children with the best schooling possible. Fashion and luxury were insignificant to him—he may not have bought trendy clothes for his children, but their education always came first.

He would often say, “I have nothing to give you but education, my name, and integrity. With those, the world is yours. All you need to add is hard work, faith in God, self-determination, personal integrity, and selflessness to bring value to those around you.” These words shaped the character of his children and remain a guiding principle in their lives today.

His wife, Janet, was more than just his partner; she was his jewel of inestimable value. He fondly called her his doctor, chef, nurse, and mother, recognizing the strength and care she poured into their family. Through the years, she remained his pillar of support, and together they created a home of love, unity, and unwavering faith.

They were blessed with five children:

• Odunayo

Through marriage, their family expanded to include four cherished daughters:

• Bidemi
• Temitope
• Bolanle
• Temitayo

Their joy multiplied with the arrival of eight beloved grandchildren:

• Moyinoluwalogo
• Ayodipupo
• Isabella
• Busayo
• Isiah

Beyond his immediate family, Olujimi’s home was a place of refuge for many. Over the years, he informally adopted, mentored, trained, and provided scholarships for numerous children, giving them opportunities for a better life. He often reminded his children, “If Baba Julius had been selfish, I would not be here. As long as I am here, I will support everyone I have the capacity to support.” His selflessness knew no bounds, and his generosity touched countless lives, extending far beyond his biological family.

His legacy of love, sacrifice, and integrity continues to inspire and live on through his children, grandchildren, and the many lives he touched. Though he has departed this world, the foundation he built through faith, family, and unwavering principles will endure for generations to come.

Faith was the foundation upon which Olujimi Olufemi Agbi built his life. Born into the Anglican Church, he carried a deep sense of spirituality from a young age. However, circa 1975, after his marriage, he moved from Mushin to Isolo to begin his family life with his beloved wife, Janet. It was during this time that he made the decision to join Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Oke Anu, Isolo, where he worshipped faithfully alongside his wife, fully committing himself to a life of service and devotion to God.

In 1979, when he moved to Ogba and settled into his first home, he became one of the founding members of Christ Gospel Apostolic Church, Oke Alafia. From that moment until his final days, his devotion to the church remained unwavering.

Olujimi was not just a member—he was a pillar of the church, a man of faith, prayer, and humility. His life revolved around service to God, and he carried these values into every aspect of his existence. His dedication was evident in his daily prayers, leadership within the church, and his commitment to spreading the message of Christ.

To him, faith was not just a belief but a way of life. He saw service to God and humanity as his divine calling, always leading by example. His presence in the church was a source of strength, encouragement, and inspiration to many. He gave his time, wisdom, and resources generously, ensuring the continued growth of the church and its spiritual mission.

In 2008, his deep faith led him on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a journey that remained one of the most cherished experiences of his life. Walking the sacred paths, visiting biblical landmarks such as Nazareth, Joseph’s carpentry workshop, and Peter’s house, he strengthened his spiritual connection and deepened his understanding of God’s word and grace.

Even in his final years, his heart remained with the church, and his unwavering belief in God’s mercy and faithfulness never faltered. His legacy of faith, devotion, and service continues to inspire generations, ensuring that his impact on the house of God and the lives he touched will never be forgotten.

To Olujimi Olufemi Agbi, his hometown of Arigidi Akoko was more than just a place of birth—it was his identity, his heritage, and his pride. He would often boastfully declare,

“I am an Arigidi Akoko man, Omo Olowoyalumo, Omo Ayese Aya Oga! I don’t fear any man; I only give honor and respect to those who deserve it.”

These words were not just a statement; they reflected his unyielding love and deep connection to the land that shaped him.

Even after decades of living in Lagos and building a distinguished career, his heart never left Arigidi. Following his retirement, he made it a personal tradition to spend the entire month of August in his hometown every year, reconnecting with his roots, his people, and the land he loved so dearly.

His love for Arigidi Akoko was unwavering, and he made it clear long before his passing that when his time on earth was done, he wished to be laid to rest in his beloved hometown. To him, there was no greater honor than to return home, to rest among his ancestors, in the place that gave him life and shaped his journey.

His patriotism and loyalty to Arigidi Akoko remain an inspiration, a reminder that no matter where life takes us, we must never forget our roots. His legacy will forever be woven into the rich history of his homeland.

On the night of Sunday, January 19, 2025, at about 10:30 pm, Olujimi Olufemi Agbi departed this world just as he had always wished—with grace, dignity, and in the presence of God.

That day, Sunday the 19th, he was in high spirits, filled with warmth and joy. He had attended the Sunday service, as was his lifelong devotion, and in an unusual but beautiful way, he spent time speaking with various family members throughout the evening. As if sensing that his journey was nearing its end, he ensured his love and presence were felt by those dearest to him.

At about 10:20 pm, he was with his wife when he stood up calmly, walked into his room, and in less than five minutes, before his wife could enter, he passed on peacefully.

Just as he had always prayed, he met God before death, without struggle or suffering. He often said, “God, do not allow death to make a mess of me; I want to make a mess of death. When my time comes, let it be effortless, without crisis, so I do not burden anyone—especially my children.“

And in His infinite mercy, God granted him that wish.

It is clear now that he had seen death approaching in the days before, yet he faced it with peace, acceptance, and preparation. His faith never wavered, his heart remained steadfast, and in his final moments, he embraced eternity just as his mother had done—on a Sunday, after worshipping God.

His transition was not just a passing; it was a testimony of a life well-lived, a soul at peace, and a journey fulfilled. He did not leave in fear or distress but in calm surrender, knowing he had served his purpose and left behind a legacy of faith, love, and integrity.

Though we grieve, we also take comfort in knowing that he walked into eternity the way he walked through life—peacefully, honorably, and with unwavering trust in God. His memory will forever remain a guiding light in our hearts.
